Trafford and Stockport College Group hosted a Iftar event at the Trafford College Stretford campus on Wednesday 19 March, welcoming over 100 staff, students, local community members, and Trafford leaders.
The event was an opportunity to celebrate the essence of community, unity, and respect. The aim of the evening, which was created and coordinated by Zebulnisa Butt, Head of Adult and Community Learning, along with staff colleagues, was to bring people from diverse backgrounds together to share in the traditions of Iftar.
The evening began with a presentation by an ESOL student, who provided valuable insights into the significance of Ramadan and its traditions. This was followed by a call to prayer and a moment of reflection. The evening also featured a selection of delicious dishes, with some guests contributing traditional Afghani and Pakistani cuisine, while others were treated to beautifully baked and decorated Ramadan-themed cakes, created by another talented ESOL student.
Attendees of the event included Leader of Trafford Council, Tom Ross, along with the Executive Member of the Council for Community and Safety, Rose Thompson.
Michelle McLaughlin MBE, Head of Student Personal and Professional Development, said, “The Iftar event offered a chance for staff, students, and the local community to engage with one another, share experiences, and deepen their understanding of the diverse cultures represented at the College. The success of the event was evident in the warm atmosphere and the shared sense of belonging felt throughout the evening.”
Following the success of the Iftar gathering, Trafford and Stockport College Group is pleased to announce that this event will now be established as an annual tradition, reinforcing the College’s commitment to fostering inclusivity, respect, and community spirit.
